PostSubject: Soviet Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFVs)   Sun Feb 20, 2011 1:37 pm

This website is pretty extensive for Soviet AFVs. We can use this for our purpose. Included in this post are the years the tanks became available. Since the Russians were fighting a defensive war for their first two years of participation, any one of the older vehicles could be encountered by invading Germanic forces.

Generally, it takes a lengthened period of time for an item to be produced in the factory and then used in the field. The further the factory is away from the soldiers who will be using the item increases the time. Since the Eastern Front was inside the Soviet Union, many of the Russian tanks saw combat within weeks of rolling off the assembly line or less. In the case of the Battle for Stalingrad, there are examples of tanks rolling out the door and right into the fight.

The T-18, aka the MS-1, was also a Soviet Light Tank. 1924-1932, although a number were modified to form T-18M's and fought in WWII. The first ever mass-produced Soviet tank.
