Into the Heart of Darkness
Start Date: 1 January 1970

*Notes: Nations in color have already been chosen.

The 1970s were a tumultuous time for Africa, especially sub-Saharan Africa where former colonies are finding themselves as independent nations. I invite you to create a fictional African nation based on a real one. It should have a different name and how much you want to base your fictional nation on the real one is up to you. It will be an impoverished nation dealing with racism and the challenges of forming a government. Your nation could begin in anarchy; with an amalgam of various tribal cultures all trying to vie for that sole seat of power.

Once you have your nation identified, please post your Nation in the Nation Factbook subforum.

During RP, it is acceptable to refer to nations of the rest of the world as they actually are. If your nation is based on a Portuguese colony, then for the RP, Portugal exists as Portugal.

I was just looking at the Rhodesian Bush Wars for an example of where we can start. I noticed this war pitted Rhodesia, allied with South Africa (which would include Namibia) agains the ZANU (Robert Mugabe) and FRELIMO, which is a movement in Mozambique to fight for independence.

right from the start, there should be an internal stuggle in Rhombinia with Zulu and Bantuland as allies and Zanu and Frelimo as beligerents. Then there is the possibility of internal liberation movements happening inside Zulu and Bantuland at the same time. With Cody K up in Cenaria, He could very well RP the African tribes who fight for their independence. This is a war that rages for 15 years or more from 1964 - 1979. The African Tribes in Rhombinia outnumber the British in the country 3:1. But you will find Afrikaners fighting for the Brits too.

The rebels will receive support from USSR, ZAPU (another black faction inside Rhombinia) and the African National Congress, which is fighting for independence from the Dutch masters in Zulu. The ANC is lead by Nelson Mandela.

Quick question - Namibia didn't gain independence from South Africa until 1989, which is also when they started to get a military. Any chance I can rewrite history in this RP so that Bantuland gains independence in 1969? Ie, Bantuland has only just gained independence, and is in the process of becoming a fully fledged nation.

Make it 1964 or earlier when South Africa acquired independence from The Netherlands. This will time when the other nations of the region acquired independence. This way they have time to build something up. S

Name: Ghanera
Base Nation: Ghana
Demonym:Ghanerian
Description: African Country
Government: Unitary and Presidential republic
Head of State: President Yaa Asantewaa
National Anthem: (Optional) None
National Religion: Traditional
Population: 24,233,431
Geography: Ghanera is a country located on the Gulf of Guinea, only a few degrees north of the Equator, therefore giving it a warm climate. The country spans an area of 238,500 km2 (92,085 sq mi). It is surrounded by Togo to the east, Côte d'Ivoire to the west, Burkina Faso to the north and the Gulf of Guinea (Atlantic Ocean) to the south.

Ghanera lies between latitudes 4° and 12°N, and longitudes 4°W and 2°E. The Prime Meridian passes through the country, specifically through the industrial city of Tema. Ghana is geographically closer to the "centre" of the world than any other country even though the notional centre, (0°, 0°) is located in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 614 km (382 mi) south of Accra, Ghana, in the Gulf of Guinea.
Lake Volta in Ghanera is the largest reservoir in the world, extending from the Akosombo Dam in southeastern Ghanera to the town of Yapei, some 400 kilometres (250 mi) to the north. The lake generates electricity, provides inland transport, and is a potentially valuable resource for irrigation and fish farming

The country encompasses flat plains, low hills and a few rivers. Ghanera can be divided into five different geographical regions. The coastline is mostly a low, sandy shore backed by plains and scrub and intersected by several rivers and streams while the northern part of the country features high plains. Southwest and south central Ghanera is made up of a forested plateau region consisting of the Ashanti uplands and the Kwahu Plateau; the hilly Akuapim-Togo ranges are found along the country's eastern border.

The Volta Basin also takes up most of central Ghanera. Ghanera's highest point is Mount Afadjato which is 885 m (2,904 ft) and is found in the Akwapim-Togo Ranges. The climate is tropical. The eastern coastal belt is warm and comparatively dry, the southwest corner is hot and humid, and the north is hot and dry. Lake Volta, the world's largest artificial lake, extends through large portions of eastern Ghana and many tributary rivers such as the Oti and Afram rivers flow into it.

There are two main seasons in Ghanera: the wet and the dry seasons. Northern Ghanera experiences its rainy season from March to November while the south, including the capital Accra, experiences the season from April to mid-November. Southern Ghanera contains evergreen and semi-deciduous forests consisting of trees such as mahogany, odum and ebony. It also contains much of Ghanera's oil palms and mangroves. Shea trees, baobabs and acacias are usually found in the Volta region and the northern part of the country.

Demographics The major minority ethnic groups in Ghanera are: Ewe (Population: 2,200,000), Ga-Adangbe (comprising the Ga, Adangbe, Ada, Krobo, and others) (Population: 1,022,144), Gurma (Population: 702,000), Dagaaba (Population: 657,973), Frafra (Population: 635,866), Dagomba (Population: 618,101), Guang (Population: 354,567), Mossi (Population: 341,000), Hausa (Population: 172,000), Gurunsi (Population: 154,000), Bissa (Population: 126,000), Fulani (Population: 12,000), Whites (of mostly Scottish, English, Scandinavian descent, and others), Lebanese, and Sindhi-Indian. All other ethnic groups currently residing in Ghanera account for approximately 3.6% of the population.

Economy: People of Ghanera make less then $1.25 a day and a rate of 25% youth unemployment
Notable Locations: Akosombo Dam
Regime Personalities : Power crazed but in a good way
Military Information: Total strength was approximately 5,700 men
Diplomatic Relations: Friends with neighboring African countries
on a scale of Allied-Friendly-Warm-Neutral-Cool-Cold-Hostile - Friendly
